Little Egret having a scratch!
Ruff.
Black-tailed GodwitHad to work this morning so I dropped in to Oare on the way home. A mainly overcast day with a few light showers and a bit of weak sunshine. Typical summers day then! By the time I rolled up, about 11, most of the passerines had gone to ground but there were still a few small birds of interest about. Skylark & Meadow Pipit were scattered about, a single Pied Wagtail was drinking from a puddle, and small flocks of Sand Martins & Barn Swallows were out feeding. On the lake the islands were full of Black-tailed Godwits & Black-headed Gulls with a few Avocets, Redshanks, Oystercatchers, Shovelers & Cormorants. A lone Green Sandpiper was seen along with Shelduck(1), Ruff(1), Little Egret(2), Grey Heron(1) & Greylag Geese(3). 1 Kestrel and a Marsh Harrier were again the only raptors.
The Ruff is bird of the day and a year tick.

I was at Oare this afternoon too, shame we didn't manage to catch up. Your ID skills are correct - that wader is a Ruff.
